Win at home against Birmingham
Everton’s trip to Luton
Wessels back on bench – 0-2 victory

Terrific start into the new year

Everton FC startet well with a 2-0 away win into the year 2008 against Middlesborough. Manager David Moyes’ team seems to continue the pleasant development, which took place around Goodison Park since last summer.

Six victories in nine matches in the „hot december“, one draw against Portsmouth and losses against the top-favourites Manchester United and Arsenal London were a good fundament for a successful second season-half.

At the last group-match in the UEFA-Cup Stefan Wessels did a good job in Evertons goal and was confident with a win.´

„The december all-in-all was a succesful month for us. I think, we now can look forward to the last months of this season. The losses against ManU and Arsenal were very unlucky, we had ManU near to a draw and we dominated Arsenal most of the 90 minutes. At the end we must say: Against these clubs you are allowed to lose. Personally I was very happy to play in Alkmaar and win with such a young team. I hope I’ll get the chance to help my team in the second half of the season as well“, Stefan Wessels said.

The next matches is the FA-Cup-fixture against the League-One-Club Oldham Athletic, which won there last match in Leeds by 3-1.

3-0 win against Fulham

The 3-0 win against Fulham on saturday was the tenth consecutive unbeaten match of Everton FC. Since the unlucky 1-2 defeat in the derby with Liverpool on the 20th october David Moyes’ team won eight times and reached two draws.

After the 0-0 draw against Portsmouth at the beginning of the „hot december“ with nine fixtures, a 1-0 win in the UEFA-Cup over Zenit St. Petersburg followed. The latest 3-0 against Fulham was a result of a very good teamperformance and a brilliant Yakubu, who scored all three goals during the second halftime. The victory brought the Blues up to the seventh place in the league, Liverpool as fourth are only three points away.

„We played very good throughout the last weeks, hopefully we’ll continue this way“, Stefan said.

The next two matches are both away against West Ham: The first one on Wednesday, in Carling Cup, on Saturday in the Premier League.
„We won’t come back to Liverpool between those two matches. I think, we’ll have some time to have a closer look at London. My last visit in London as a tourist was a couple of years ago.“

Goalfest against Sunderland

After league-break Everton FC came back with a fantastic 7-1 win against Sunderland, where former ManU-star Dwight Yorke played and shot the 3-1.

"We really played wonderful football. Of course, after leading 4-1 Sunderland was lying down and we had an easy game.

Next month, Everton will have a tough schedule with 9 matches, with the new-year´s clash 10 matches in 32 days.
"That's more than I ever had in my career", Stefan said und mentioned the importance of these clashes. "We'll play ManU, Arsenal, two matches in the UEFA-Cup und two times West Ham - when we get through the december with many wins and points, we'll have a good position for 2008."
