1. How can I contact Stefan?

There are different ways of contacting Stefan. Firstly, you can use the Guestbook. Stefan reads the Guestbook regularly. You can also use the “Star Chat“, in which Stefan answers your questions.
This gives you direct contact to Stefan. You can find out the next date for the Star Chat on this website or via E-mail, if you have registered for a regular newsletter! You can also send an E-mail to Stefan at mail@stefanwessels.com . Stefan answers most of his E-mails, even if it sometimes takes a couple of weeks.

2. How can I get an autograph from Stefan?

The easiest way is to download and print the prepared, and signed, autograph card. As this is obviously not as good as an original autograph, and we can't send autographs by E-mail, you must send your enquiry by post to:

An even easier way of getting an autograph is to visit an 1FC Cologne training session at the club training ground. Stefan is more than willing to sign autographs after each training session – provided he does not have an urgent appointment elsewhere.

3. Why did Stefan leave Bayern Munich?


"I really enjoyed my time in Munich. It is a great city. Unfortunately there were not any great prospects for me on a sporting front. It wouldn’t have done me any good to spend another 3 years sat on the bench while Oli (Oliver Kahn) played. In Cologne I have the opportunity to develop as a footballer and as a person. I hope and believe that Bayern fans understand my decision, and will give me a friendly welcome when I return to the Olympic Stadium.”

4. Why did Friedhelm Funkel wait until just before the start of the season before deciding on Stefan as his “number one”?

"When the trainer and our manager Andreas Rettig signed me, they were certain I was the right man for the job. The feeling that the club really wanted me was also a reason for me joining Cologne.
However, Alex Bade played well in the promotion season. Therefore, it was only fair that both started from scratch during preseason training. In order to give us both as much chance as possible to prove who should start the season as number one, the trainer waited until shortly before the start of the season. I was always certain that he would choose me. So was Alex. Any other attitude would have been unprofessional."

5. How long will Stefan stay in Cologne?

Stefan has extended his contract to summer 2007.
”We extended the contract during the season in which we won promotion. I felt, and still feel, at home here in Cologne, and believe that I can achieve something with the club. The immediate promotion back to the 1st division showed that Cologne is a force to be reckoned with. I hope and believe that the 2005/2006 Bundesliga season will see positive developments for both the club and myself.”

6.Question from Lukas in Paderborn: ‘I have heard that you play in contact lenses. Is this true? If yes, how do you find it?’

"Yes, it is true that I wear contact lenses whilst playing. Fortunately I have not had many problems with the lenses so far. For quite some time I have been wearing monthly lenses, as these are thinner and more comfortable than longer-term lenses. As far as football is concerned, I find the lenses work perfectly well. The only problem I have experienced was when I used to play on smaller pitches under floodlights, as these tend not to be very bright. This isn't a problem in Bundesliga stadiums."
