Herzenswünsche e.V. is a registered national association, which helps fulfil the wishes of children and young people who are seriously ill. A team of approximately 50 volunteers and two full-time helpers maintain constant contact with parents, doctors, therapists, and above all the affected children. In this way Herzenswünsche e.V. can find out what wish can give the child new courage and strength.

The anticipation and fulfilment of a life’s wish goes a long way toward reducing the strain of the constant treatment and visits to clinics. Whether meeting a prominent star from the world of sport or show business, a pony-trekking holiday, a hot-air balloon trip, or an extra special birthday party, every wish is taken seriously and is fulfilled enthusiastically. The work of Herzenswünsche e.V. is supported by numerous donors and sponsors. Stefan Wessels supports Herzenswünsche e.V. as much as possible.

10 year old Florian lost the lower part of one of his legs. Herzenswünsche e.V. invited him to meet Stefan in Munich.
In the Cologne team hotel, Stefan presented Florian with his goalkeeping gloves. Football-crazy Florian, who had always wanted to be a goalkeeper, immediately converted his cap into a football. This was the queue for Stefan to give Florian a goalkeeping training session in the hotel lobby, much to the amusement of the other hotel guests.
A team poster and autographs from the rest of the team rounded off a fantastic evening for Florian. The fact that Stefan produced a great performance against Bayern Munich the following day made the gift all the more valuable for Florian.

"Thank you Stefan. You would not believe how delighted Florian was. His grandmother must now be a goalkeeper every day. You have got yourself a new friend!"

The last few years have seen Stefan greet many children at training sessions. He now realises what an important means of support this is for them.
To see the joy in the eyes of a seriously ill child is a great reward for a personal chat, a photo, or an autograph.
Gerd Häcke, who is a helper at Herzenswünsche e.V. and is responsible for granting sport-related wishes, says:
"It is unbelievable how much the sick children look forward to meeting their stars. For a while the illness and the trips to the clinic are completely forgotten. The children enjoy the fact that friends and relatives are jealous of the autographs and photos. It is quite simply wonderful when such a dream is realised."
